There have long been tales and speculations about a race living on earth that is not quite human yet not quite fish. Figureheads have been carved, legends shared, and movies produced, but there is no concrete evidence that such creatures exist.

Consider, however, how vast and deep earth’s oceans truly are, and how many life forms dwell there, as yet undiscovered by humankind. Now imagine the possibility that some of those life forms take great care to ensure that their discovery never comes to pass.

In Colleen Guzman’s “Into the Depths” setting, players take the roles of merfolk seeking to protect their ancient civilization from prying eyes and ocean dangers alike. The worst of those threats may well be the deadly octopeople, nomad raiders in search of the merfolk royal city.
